While the Memorial Concert has now passed - with a record of it shown below, it is time to record a Biography for Robert Boughen, as a tribute from the Organ Society of Qld, which he helped to found in 1951.

So we present the biographical record of Robert Boughen from the program of that concert.

A fitting tribute to an imposing man and musician and his equally esteemed wife was held at St Stephens Cathedral on Saturday 20 April 2024. The musical and other tributes flowed through performances of choir piano clarinet and organ from leading musicians of Brisbane.

An especially important feature was the inclusion of works composed by Robert Boughen exemplifying his wide skill and taste in music, from arrangement of Waltzing Matilda to his masterful hymn tune When God Almighty.

For organists Gearing, Kouznetsov, Cook and Fulcher, all of whom he worked with in their Brisbane musical careers, it must have been an emotional experience to use their talents to farewell such a musical and personal mentor.

For St Johns Cathedral Choristers who presented the royal tribute of I Was Glad, it remembered Robert's many years of work with past groups of these choristers.

These and other flavours of the concert, as well as detailed exposition of the lives of these two Brisbane musical identities are contained in the Program of the Memorial Concert.
